Abstract
Abstract:
The narrative ta’wilat (esoteric interpretations) of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in the exegesis of Quranic verses, founded upon divinely inspired knowledge (‘ilm ladunni) and inner spiritual insight, reveal the symbolic and profound layers of meanings related to prophethood, imamate, and wilayah. These interpretations elucidate the pivotal role of Ahl al-Bayt (A) within the divine system of guidance. This study, employing a descriptive-analytical method and based on reliable Shi‘a exegetical sources, conducts a typological analysis of the ta’wilat offered by Ahl al-Bayt (A) regarding four selected verses: 2:30 and 2:124 from Surah al-Baqarah, and 3:33 and 3:61 from Surah Al-i ‘Imran. It seeks to examine their exegetical position in uncovering the esoteric meanings of these verses and their intrinsic connection with the foundational concepts of prophethood and imamate.
The findings indicate that in verse 2:30, human vicegerency (khilāfah) is interpreted as a divine and spiritual rank characterized by infallibility, spiritual guidance, and inner worthiness. In verse 2:124, the "words" (kalimāt) are interpreted as divinely inspired teachings and spiritual trials prerequisite for attaining the station of imamate. In Surah Al-i ‘Imran, verse 3:33 signifies the spiritual election and inner purity of the Prophet's household, while verse 3:61 (the event of Mubahala) confirms the ontological and spiritual unity of Ahl al-Bayt (A) with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) within the framework of divine wilayah.
The conclusion highlights that the ta’wilat of Ahl al-Bayt (A), transcending the literal text, unveil profound esoteric meanings and establish their position as the bearers of divine knowledge, heirs of revelation, and spiritual guides of the Muslim community. These interpretations, in contrast to purely literal readings, offer a coherent epistemological and exegetical framework essential for the proper understanding of Quranic teachings on prophethood and imamate.
